KBC Executive Meeting – August 29th, 2011

 

Present: Mike Christian, Neil Ward, Val Warwick, Jennay Oliver, Mike Mitson, Mickey Kroschinsky, Chuck Cey, Mike Heroux.

 

Regrets: Lyndsay Thomson.

 

  1. Meeting brought to order at 7:10 pm.

  2. Approval of minutes from last meeting by Val Warwick, seconded by Neil Ward.

  3. Old Business

    1. Registration dates, keys for executive.

    1. World’s Tournament. Congratulations were made to those who attended the World’s tournament. 7 KBC members attended. Selected by Badminton Canada Barb Heaney, Al Fraser, Tess Tearoe, Terry Downton, Mike Mitson, Denise Vines, and Sue Rogers. Thanks proffered to all those who participated.

    2. Registration Day. Special thanks to Val, Neil and Lyndsay who organized Registration Day on Sunday August 28. Thanks also to Denise Vines who suggested the idea in 2009.

    3. Computer for Evert Thor. Special thanks to Val and Jim Warwick for donating a computer to Evert Thor, and to Cal Bridges for setting up the computer. KBC has donated a bicycle to Evert.     4. Advertising. Capital News, advertising opportunity passed on at this time.

    5. Public relations. Jennay Oliver will liaise with Chuck Cey re: public relation communiqués for free press opportunities to publicize the KBC.

    6. Recycling and garbage bins (interior) etiquette. Our cleaning lady asks that KBC members keep in mind that mindlessly or intentionally depositing garbage into the bins specifically identified with signage as being only for bottles and cans (i.e. recyclable and / or refundable items) forces her to take time to sort thru the recycling bins to remove garbage, time she could otherwise use for her many other tasks around the club. Not only does this waste the time of our cleaning lady, it forces a lady to sort thru thru garbage. NOTE TO MEMBERS from the KBC executive: Smarten up!

    7. Recycling and garbage bins (exterior), supplier status. BFI takes over from Waste Management.

    8. Smack Down. Smack down 2011 was well attended and greatly enjoyed. Major thanks to Ezreena Scott for organizing this event.

 

  1. New Business

    1. Coaches. Membership discount discussed, declined, except for the Head Coach.

    2. Interac machine. Will be set up to accept CHIP cards.

    3. Topic: Tournaments. Various tournaments discussed, and to be discussed further at next meeting. Also, John McGuinness tournament possible date proposed to be weekend of Nov. 25th.

    4. Monday 5 to 7pm time slot. Executive decides that Monday 5 to 7pm will revert to Open Play (was a Double’s Ladder). The decision is debated at length and is arrived at with the condition that, depending on participation at these time slots, this change may be temporary. A Friday Double’s Ladder, 5 to 7pm, will be organized by Jennay. Memo to membership: Adult Club Play and Open Play, definitions: Adult Club Play - Open to all Full Adult and Student Members. Must mix and play with everyone during these times. Open Play - Open to all Full Adult, Student and Junior Members.

    5. Wednesday after work group. Issue was broached, to be further discussed.

    6. Executive meetings. Going forward, will be held the 2nd Monday of each month, 7pm.

    7. Brochures. To be distributed to schools etc to advertise our club.

    8. Gift cards. Prepared by Mike C., were distributed to the executive to give to persons who might wish to try our facility gratis once.
